Number one seed Simona Halep came through a tight first set before racing into the fourth round of this year’s French Open with a 7-5 6-0 victory over Andrea Petkovic of Germany.

The opening set lasted one hour on court 18 before Halep broke in the 11th game and served out what had been a tight first set.

Andrea Petkovic suffered a knee injury early in the second set which required a lengthy medical time out and taping.  The match was effectively over at this point as the world number one raced out into an early lead and ultimately won it 6-0.

The Romanian has now only dropped 11 games in her previous six sets having lost her opening set in her opening match 2-6 to Alison Riske, on Wednesday.

A backhand winner with the final point of the match sets up a fourth round match between Simona Halep and 16th seed Elise Mertens of Belgium.
